lit some nag champa, threw on the cozy jammy jams, made some thai herbal tea, and blasting walk in the park by beach house. not a bad way to spend a monday night.

cadence

the word of the day is cadence. click on the word for the definition. it's great, i promise.

i'm still trying to learn how to go with the cadence of things. the cadence of life.

i think i'd like to name an art piece or theme an art show after the word.

on a separate note, my new mixed media digital art pieces are up on my website. check 'em out. one of the drawings from the series will be in a coloring book soon enough :) i'll have to give you details another day.

until then...

animism, pleasure, and the social scene

this weekend has been a swell one so far and it's not even over yet...

on friday morning, i finished hanging my first personally curated art show @ a popular women's clothing & jewelry store on haight street -- X GENERATION :))))

featuring 6 local bay area artists, all artwork involves animals, bright colors, and nature. i decided to title the show ANIMISM -- the idea that animals possess souls and consciousness.

a dear friend of mine, hooked me up with the store owner, a while back, and kept telling me that i needed to get my artwork up on her store's walls. we finally met about this matter in person and hana told me that the best selling clothing articles these days involves designs with animals, nature, and feathers. she wanted my colorful animal art up on the walls. X Generation is a decent sized store, so i mentioned that it would be better for me to get a collection of artists to show work, rather than just me, hanging my own. she agreed, and a week later, after some successful artist networking, i came to the store with my art car full of pieces to hang.

the show features work by myselfjenny harpmaggie hurleyrick kitagawajon hrabko, and basic lee.

after i was done hanging all of the pieces in a meticulous array, i was searching the store for some awesome outfits to wear to this weekend's sf annual hardly strictly bluegrass festival. about once a week, i work at great american music hall (sister venues with slim's), who organizes and books the fest, so i have friends & family passes to attend. i ran outside to take a phone call after i was done trying things on, and upon my return into the store, hana sweetly put all of my items into a bag and handed them to me as a gift. completely stoked on life, i thanked her and went home to put on one of the dresses to rush off to the good times.

check the outfit:

a part of this story that's also worth mentioning -- same friend mentioned above, -- works at a lovely little restaurant in the mission district, called flour + water, and gave me the underground word that the indie band, broken social scene, would be djing @ the restaurant that night, and eating dinner. i made a decision in my mind at that very moment that i had to be there, and planned accordingly.

after enjoying the crazy clusterfuck of hardly strictly, listening to some amazing music in the setting sunshine of sf in golden gate park, shmoozing with music lovers, finagling some free drinks, and sharing some sacred moments with a beautiful acid drenched sf boy, we headed off to share more incredible moments, and then to flour + water hours later. grabbing some wine, and spotting some of the band members, merely based on their creative looking vibes, without actually knowing what any of them looked like, i went to say hi.

i took a particular liking to sam goldberg, a guitarist of bss, wearing a black suit jacket and slacks, equipped with a white button up shirt, and no tie. he was the first member of the band that i approached and was unbelievably kind and appreciative of my music envy. i asked if they were looking forward to playing the next day at the hardly strictly festival, but he then informed me that they also had a show to play the same night at the fillmore. apparently this would be one of their best and last performances as a band for the next 3-5 years. unaware of this fact, i questioned the reasoning behind it. as it turns out, all members of the band have several side projects that they'll all be splitting apart to focus on. i inquired about the fillmore show, wondering if the bluegrass fest would be better to see during the day or if the night show was going to be the epic performance. the show at the fillmore was his preference, and he offered me with two guest passes. handing him a doreykronick.com sticker, i told sam i'd love to attend. i spoke with some of the other bss members before leaving the restaurant, and exchanged some kind words.

i made it out to their show at the fillmore the next night, after receiving an e-mail confirmation from sammy, who contacted me through my website. running into a bunch of friends at the show, i made it to the front of the stage and rocked out pretty hard with the crowd. the show lasted 3 hours, featuring some song performances with the lead man of modest mouse, stars, and the smiths. absolutely uh-mazing set.

i lucked out with some after party, backstage passes, met up with some of the members of the band afterwards, and gifted sam with a custom dk mixed media screenprint.... one that looked almost like this, (although the one i gave him is an original, and i actually don't have it photographed). he was very appreciative, thanked me several times, and in exchange i, of course, thanked him for the incredible experience. the rest is history.

aside from all this goodness, now i'm obsessed with the song, sweetest kill by bss. what a sweet life this is.

art. design. love. life.

"I used to encourage everyone to make art," said Banksy, followed by a pause. "I don't really do that anymore."

Music video of the day:  Fever Dreams by Nurses

Also presently obsessed with The Range of Light Wilderness -- a truly amazing band. I can't stop listening.

Below is a drawing of a coyote that I did for a part of Mark Matos & OS Beaches next album cover... just wait 'til you see the finished design :)))

Life is an incredible journey and I cannot wait to see where it leads me next.

Peace. Love. Light. Follow your heart, your dreams, your soul, and your spirit.

20 million thoughts all at once

today was a day where i had 20 million thoughts all at once. over and over again.

what was i thinking about?  i'll tell you this:

forget your body

leave it where it is

escape your physical limits

experience

allow the feelings to pass through you as you try to hold onto one thought, one person, one place, one anything for a time

but nothing holds

all must move

must flow

must continue

silence ends

relax

meditate

go easy on yourself

you don't have to be perfect

ever

you don't have to want to be perfect either

we're human

so why not just feel things for once

why not just live

be human

be what you're meant to be

this week is going to be a big one. i can feel it. i should probably go to sleep.

i'll have to tell you everything else later.

oh commercial work

i went to an awesome wedding this weekend and this is my favorite couple shot:

congratulations amy + sasha!

view 'em all here.

i made a bunch of rad birthday card designs for tinyprints.com, along with some religious card designs.

they only actually accepted a few to sell on their website, and you can buy them here:

http://www.tinyprints.com/search/dorey+kronick

i'm a little sad because they didn't really take any of my personal favorite designs, and the ones that they did take are probably some of the cheesiest ones i made. [not to mention the fact that they changed some of the wording and quotes... <<sigh>>]

oh well though -- my collection will be expanding. next up:  valentine's day cards, yes! lay on the cheese.

all of my awesome mother's + father's day card designs did not get my special dorey kronick logo on the backs of them, due to the fact that i was only a temporary, freelance designer for them at the time. after those successful holiday card designs, they decided to ask me to join their design team for a solid 1 year contract. with this new contract, i now get my dk logo on the back of the new printed cards when you order them.

i'm a greeting card designer. who would've thought?

living the dream

i'm living the dream.

it's true.

i was asked if i'd be interested in putting on an art + music event @ public works -- http://www.publicsf.com

i have already begun to confirm visual artists, bands, djs, projectionists, merchants...

numbers that came up today :

1111 biography views on my website today when i went to make some updates

i was the 700th facebook person to "like" the band the blank tapes

those numbers don't come up often... not for me at least. how bout you?

do you think this means i should play the lottery?

i like today.

in other news, i'll be doing some graphic design work for isurus wetsuits :

wetsuits of the future, or that's at least what they seem like to me -- with their unique use of compression technology.

details details details.

lets be friends.

COLOR JAM 2011

our art and music creative live/work space, had it's very first
[soft] gallery/studio space/house warming event on july 29, 2011 :)))

i took some pictures on my camera and shared the role of photographer with many willing volunteers throughout the course of the night. (i've posted my favorites below, although there were many more.)

thank you photographer friends
and to all the people who were willing to be photographed :)

we moved into the marina creative loft space in may 2011

you can see previous posts on this blog and read further about:
the process of finding a space, writing a proposal, a small group of friends who worked together to assemble, construct, and repair the space, my personal visions, goals, and other rambled creative ideas regarding the importance of the creative community in my life, friends, inspirations, networks, pursuit of dreams and happiness, etc...

as an additional note, this event was also on the last day of my summer teaching job as graphic design/digital photography instructor to 5th-9th graders -- which was an amazing experience! so after a deliriously joyful and crazy 6 weeks of costume wearing, camp spirit song-singing, non-stop digital creativity, team activities, sharing, inspiring, showing and telling...

i came home, threw on a colorful outfit and topped it with an indian feather headdress...

and then threw the most epic private event i knew how with all of our closest friends!

thank you to everyone who brought drinks and food to share :)

and

thank you to those who left us a heartfelt suggestion in the color jam suggestion box :)

we had several outstanding friends who performed for us as solo musicians, as well as bands. myself, ryan, and won showcased our art, with a special last minute addition of an amazing piece of art by one of my dear friend and former santa cruz fair housemate, taylor blackmore. friends flew up from los angeles and orange county, able to join us for the festivities from far and wide. neighbors joined :) a lovely bartender friend, guia, made some delicious fresh sangria with me :)

the night was a complete success!

thank you to everyone for being a part of our ever-expanding creative community,
for inspiring art and music wherever you go, and being our friends :)
